On Friday, April 30 (28 days after the device’s release), Apple sold its one millionth iPad; exactly one month later the company announced it has sold two million iPads. “Customers around the world are experiencing the magic of iPad, and seem to be loving it as much as we do,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. The iPad recently became available internationally, and Apple plans to start selling it in nine more countries in July and additional countries later this year. If the iPad continues to sell this well, it may surpass even the most optimistic forecasts.

Nevertheless, it seems that the overall goal is to increase iTunes music discovery via Web search engines, all of which are now indexing the iTunes Preview Web site. Despite the fact that you can play samples in your browser, the iTunes Preview site pushes you to iTunes whenever possible.

Well, actually, you should believe it—Apple has probably been working on Mac OS X 10.7 since 10.6 was announced. We have long known that Snow Leopard was designed to set the stage for future versions of Mac OS X. Chances are good that even at that point in time, Apple already had a roadmap ready for at least some of the features that 10.7 would include.

Apple has officially announced the upcoming event for the iPod with another classic iPod silhouette and a cheeky slogan. “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it.” The Apple event will be held on September 9 and we’re expecting to finally hear about iTunes 9, with some new features, as well as iPods (Nano and Touch) with built-in cameras. Of course, there may be more but we’re not sure what. Don’t expect to hear about the Apple Tablet, it’s probably still too soon, but Steve Jobs will be back, so maybe we’ll get a nice “one more thing.”

This time around, the music industry sources indicate that this event will again focus on music, probably with things relating to iTunes 9 and the rumored update to the iPod Touch, but people are still going to go, praying to any gods they worship (the Great All-Powerful Steve in most cases) that Steve Jobs will unveil the Apple Tablet that has been dominating rumors lately. Will it happen?

We always knew it was too good to last. The fact that the Palm Pre could work with iTunes just seemed like one thing the manufacturers looked over. Palm even mentioned that the access could be terminated at any second, and they were right. Apple released a newer version of iTunes yesterday that cut off the syncing functionality with non-Apple media players.

While it wasn’t wholly unexpected, we didn’t really expect it to hit so soon. But apparently Apple was ready to get rid of the Palm. In the Software Update menu for the new version 8.2.1 Apple said that one of the fixes was to “address the issue with verification of Apple devices.” Later, Apple even went so far as to call out Pre manufacturers saying the newest version of iTunes stops devices “falsely pretending to be iPods, including the Palm Pre.” I don’t know about you, but those sound like fightin’ words to me.

So now we have to wait and see. Palm has apparently taken it the change personally, saying that it’s aimed as a direct blow to Palm users. So now it appears both sides have drawn the line and it’s Palm’s turn to see if they can come up with some sort of rebuff, a counterstrike aimed at Apple’s users. We don’t know what they should do, but we’re hoping they do something. If for nothing more than blog fodder.

The “S” apparently stands for “Speed,” with Apple indicating that the new device is “the fastest, most powerful iPhone yet.”

There will be two versions of the iPhone 3G S available: 16GB for $199, and 32GB for $299, and they’ll both be available on June 19th. Meanwhile, Apple also announced that it would be dropping the price on the current generation iPhone – iPhone 3G – to $99.

Other features of the iPhone 3G S include “longer battery life, a high-quality 3 megapixel autofocus camera, easy to use video recording and hands free voice control.” The device will include version 3.0 of iPhone’s OS software, which adds “more than 100 new features,” most notably copy/paste, MMS, and a new “find my iPhone” feature that helps you track down a missing device.

The iPhone 3.0 software will be available a couple days before the new device (on June 17th) as a free upgrade to existing iPhone users, and $9.95 for those with an iPod Touch. Now that the WWDC keynote has concluded, Apple has also updated its site with all of the details and specs.
