iTunes 9.1 adds sync support for iPad

Recently, Apple released iTunes 9.1, bringing iPad support to the company’s multimedia jukebox software, and improving support for Genius Mixes.

The update (available only via Software Update when this story was posted) adds support for iPad syncing. If you’re one of the lucky ones getting your hands on a shiny new iPad, you should be able to sync music, movies, TV shows, books—and more, according to the release notes—to your Mac or PC right away.

iTunes 9.1 also brings the iPod’s shuffle’s option to create 128-kbps AAC files on the fly when syncing to iPhones, other iPod, and (presumably) iPads; plus, it cleans up the Summary page for connected devices.

The update also adds organization and sync for iBooks, though the iBookstore is not yet available for your perusal. iTunes also now lets you rename, rearrange, and remove your Genius Mixes.

Apple iTunes sells 10 billion songs

Apple excitedly announced Wednesday that it had sold its 10 billionth song on iTunes. Maybe a little too excitedly, because the notorious perfectionists at the company spewed a typo onto its home page. The iTunes Store has been active since 2003. It recorded its first billion songs in 2006, and 5 billion by 2008. While beginning with music, it has gradually expanded to include movies, TV shows, games and applications.

The company is meanwhile highlighting a list of all-time bestselling singles, predominantly controlled by recent mass-market acts like the Black Eyed Peas, Lady GaGa and Katy Perry. Topping the chart is the Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” The rankings may be dictated less by genuine popularity than the coincidence of certain songs’ debuts with the growth of iTunes, the iPod and the iPhone.

Apple updates iTunes to ver.9.0.3

Apple yesterday released another update to iTunes, bumping it up to version 9.0.3. This update fixes iTunes no longer ignoring your “Remember password for purchases” setting, addresses problems with syncing some Smart Playlists and Podcasts with iPod, and resolves a problem recognizing when iPod is connected. The update weighs in at 98.1MB and can be found either at Apple’s site or by launching Software Update from the Apple menu.

Apple adds samples to iTunes preview website

Apple has enabled Web-based samples of music available in the iTunes Store via the iTunes Preview Web site – prior to this, sample music was limited to iTunes itself. Nevertheless, it seems that the overall goal is to increase iTunes music discovery via Web search engines, all of which are now indexing the iTunes Preview Web site. iTunes Store adds movie bundles

Apple has rolled out a Movie Bundles section, which pairs up popular films at discounted prices. You could get your fill of Patrick Swayze’s Dirty Dancing with a Cuba-based prequel that’s, okay. Enjoy the crime classics Reservoir Dogs and Bad Lieutenant in the Harvey Keitel Double Feature. Scream with terror as you bear witness to the horror of not one, but two Charlie’s Angels films. There are also bundles for Dane Cook, Bad Boys, X-Men, Scarlett Johansson, pre-Governator Arnold Schwarzenegger and more.

Prices for the bundles start at $10 to $15 for two films and rise up to $35 for as many as four films. The X-Men Quadrilogy, for example, runs $30 as a bundle, instead of $45 if purchased individually. While you can find most of these titles for much less at discount DVD stores, you still can’t beat the convenience of digital downloads. No HandBrake required.

Rumor: iTunes 9 Able to Rip DVD Movie

Apple’s iTunes 9 looks to be bringing with it a ton of new features that will expand Apple’s software connections to beyond just its own ecosystem.

As I’ve posted before, iTunes 9 rumored to carry Blu-ray support. Now the next big feature that’s rumored is DVD ripping support. AppleInsider is sceptical of the latest shots hosted on the Boy Genius Report which showed “Play DVD” and “Import DVD” buttons at the bottom of the program window.

While a DVD playback feature isn’t shocking at all, the notion that one could import – or rip – a movie from a DVD for playback on an iPod or iPhone would go against what the movie industry has been trying to protect for so long. Granted, movie ripping from a purchased, licensed DVD for private use would be little different in practice than ripping a CD for playback on an iPod, but defeating DVD copy protection would mean that Apple would have very special exemption from the DVD Forum.

Of course, these are all just rumors and speculation until iTunes 9 hits the web. For Mac OS users, currently, there are so many freeware/shareware can rip DVD to iTunes now，iFunia DVD to iTunes Converter for Mac, Handbrake, some of these third party software actually do a good job.
