BlackBerry App World Grows to 2,000

blackberry-app

It’s no Apple App store, but RIM is doing pretty well by its own standards. But we’re not so sure. According to Jeff McDowell, RIM’s vice president of global alliances, it doesn’t matter if the BlackBerry App World has 2,000 (ironically enough that’s exactly how many they currently have) or 40,000 (eerily close to Apple’s 50,000) apps in the store, it will serve the same purpose. Really?

Although 2,000 is an impressive number considering the fact that the store only became available 3.5 months ago, we’re pretty certain RIM shouldn’t be content with that. Really. The iPhone is gaining ground in the smartphone market, where BlackBerry is growing slower. McDowell really shouldn’t be content with 2,000. Apple currently has more than 50,000 apps available and that’s why people are buying the phone.
