How to open emailed WMV attachments on iPad
"I am having an Apple iPad, this was running fine till the last date. But in this morning when I tried to view a attachment in my mail account from the iPad device, it flashes a message that the attachment should not be opened, I tried by open this one with the QuickTime media player, but by this I was also not able to access the wmv attachment. Now what should I do? How to access that attachment. Is there any way or I required for any other video player. Any input on this issue will be appreciated greatly."
WMV is a closed/proprietary Microsoft video format. It is not a compatible video format with all Apple products including iPad and QuickTime player. So when you attempt to open a WMV attachment file on Apple iPad, you will get notice as "mail cannot open this attachment". Though Microsoft stopped providing and supporting a Windows Media Player version for the Mac and OS X many years ago, this doesn't mean that there's no solution.
To open WMV attachment on iPad, you are highly recommended to use iFunia Video Converter for Mac. This Mac software enables you to quickly and easily convert video and audio with ultra-fast conversion speed. With high compatibility with Apple products, the Converter even provides some presets for iPad, iPhone, iPod, iMovie and more to simplify your conversion if you happen to convert video for watching on your iOS devices or editing in iMovie or FCP.
Step 1: Download and save the WMV attachments on your Mac
On your Mac, open your mail app and log in with your mail account, click the WMV attachment and download it.
Step 2: Add the WMV mail attachments
After the installation of the Mac Converter, import the WMV attachments into the program. There are two options: directly drag & drop the files to the Mac app, or head to the File menu > Add Files. The Mac application enables you to add several video files to convert at a time, i.e, you can save your time by dragging & dropping several files to the Mac app to convert.
Step 3: Choose an output format
Open the output format list and choose your output format. QuickTime MOV is strongly recommended here. This format is developed by Apple and is highly compatible with all Apple products including iPad. BTW, The Mac Converter even offers some optimized presets for Apple iPad, iPhone, iPod, iMovie and more which you can choose directly in this step.
Step 4: Start the WMV attachments conversion on Mac
Click the "Start" button to start to convert your mail attachments in WMV on Mac (Lion included). After the conversion, click the converted file to open in QuickTime player on your Mac directly, or import it into your iTunes library and sync to your iPad, the file now will appear in the Video app on your new iPad. Have fun!
