How to rip DVD to iTunes on Mac?

"There is a movie I want that doesn't seem to be on iTunes. I have the DVD at home. Is there any way I can put it on iTunes and transfer to my iPhone? It's easy to 'rip' CDs, but for some reason there doesn't seem to be an easy way to 'rip' DVDs. I spend a lot of time on the road these days and it would be nice to carry some DVD content without carrying the DVDs and a DVD player. Thanks for any & all information!"
