Adding a Non-Protected DVD into iTunes Library
ITunes plays an increasingly important role in the Apple culture in the way organizing and playing the music, video, Podcast. You may want to copy the VOB files of your non-proteted DVD and add them to iTunes, but iTunes and QuickTime Pro do not support importing content from DVD videos. You just need to convert your DVD to iTunes compatible video, then you can add it into your iTunes library.
The video content works with iTunes
- Video content purchased from the iTunes Store.
- QuickTime and MPEG-4 movie files that end in ".mov", ".m4v", or ".mp4" and are playable in QuickTime Player.
- Video podcasts.
The requirements for playing increased quality movies or music videos in iTunes
You need iTunes 7 or later and QuickTime 7.1.3 or later with:
A Macintosh with a PowerPC G4, G5, or Intel Core processor, at least 256MB of RAM, at least 16MB of video RAM, and Mac OS X version 10.3.9 or later. Or a 2 GHz Pentium class processor or better with Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 or later or Windows XP with a QuickTime-compatible audio card. Also make sure you have the latest Windows Service Pack using Microsoft Update. You also need at least 512 MB RAM and 32 MB of video memory.
Ripping non protected DVD into iTunes compatible video
There are several different ways to rip non protected DVDs to iTunes formats on your Mac, we’ll cover ripping DVD’s with HandBrake and with iFunia DVD to iTunes Converter for Mac here.
- Using Handbrake
HandBrake is a simple DVD ripper. Basically just insert a DVD into your drive, and launch HandBrake. Handbrake will then scan the disk and read all the chapters and titles, be sure to select the proper title because if there’s any special features or extras on the DVD you could inadvertently rip that instead of the actual movie. Select the MP4 file format you want to use, and rip! It will take a while to rip the DVD depending on the speed of your Mac but the ripped DVD will appear on your Desktop when it’s done.

- Using iFunia DVD to iTunes Converter for Mac
iFunia DVD to iTunes Converter is probably the best choice for ripping a DVD on Mac, it makes DVD rips very easy to make and features simple movie-editing ability like trimming, cropping DVD movies beofre conversion. Here’s how to rip a DVD with iFunia DVD to iTunes Converter on your Mac: with a DVD in the drive, launch iFunia DVD to iTunes Converter and click the big button "Load..." to load your DVD disk. If you don't want to edit the DVD movie, go to the step 2 and select the MP4 video, or MOV, or M4V video output and specify the destination folder, click "Start" and wait a while for it to rip!

Importing ripped DVD content on your computer to iTunes
iTunes helps you add digital audio and video files on your computer directly to your iTunes library. You can now add the ripped DVD video content in QuickTime or MPEG-4 format to iTunes. To learn how to add these files to iTunes follow the steps below.
- 1.Open iTunes
- 2.From the File menu, choose one of the following choices:
Mac - > Add to Library - 3.Navigate to and select the file or folder that you want to add
If iTunes is set to "Copy files to the iTunes Music folder when adding to library," iTunes will copy all content that is added to the iTunes library to the iTunes Music folder. To adjust this setting or change the location of this folder, go to the Advanced tab in iTunes Preferences.
