Part 2: Stream movies and music from iPhone to Apple TV with AirPlay wirelessly
Apple’s iPhone features an internal wireless receiver that allows you to stream music or videos over a Wi-Fi network, but the device’s wireless streaming option is only compatible with the Apple TV. With the Apple TV connected to a wireless router, the iPhone streams to the Apple TV’s “AirPlay” function, which is capable of receiving media from any Apple operating system. Once the iPhone connects to the AirPlay function, the Apple TV automatically switches to the streaming media.
Airplay set-up
Power on your Apple TV. Select the “Settings” option using your Apple TV remote control. Select the “AirPlay” option. After that select “On” to activate the AirPlay feature.
(Note: AirPlay is available on iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod Touch 2nd generation and later.)

Definitely never had to wait more than 30 seconds for AirPlay. My AppleTV and iPhone/iPad are on an “n” only network.
I was having a similar problem and at times it wouldn’t play at all. I called Apple and they recommended to keep the ATV on a wired Internet connection. That almost took care of the problem. I still get some occasional spottiness even when I stand in front of the ATV/Time capsule it’s connected to.
I used to control my AppleTV with the Remote app on my iPhone… but it doesn’t work perfectly anymore.
The Apple TV is starting to get more and more tempting.
Does anyone have one that can say it’s worth it?

Or just get an Apple video cable. Problem solved.
You’ll have to install something like XMBC or Plex. The best thing to use for .avi streaming from a Mac is the Xbox 360 with Rivet.
I’m curious as to what features you gain with apple TV that you couldn’t get with an iPhone or iPad hooked up to your TV. I’m not against either of them just curious what is the better option.
i only got my first Iphone EVER last week, and it is the 3GS 32gb. honestly its the best phone ive had, i have alywas been a blackberry user, i previously had a torch 9800 and sold that to get this. i must say it is SOOO GOOD! i definitely recommend it to anyone The iphone 4 is faster, but probably a second faster..so if your on a tight budget you can save yourself alot of money getting the 3GS and another good thing is that you can use your normal sim card in a 3GS
This app is so cool. Works great. Just another great way to make use of your iPhone! And it’s free!
This entirely depends on your needs. If you plan on using this ability for business, such as giving presentations, then the direct connection between the iPhone and display will be much better.
