NXP Software has released an update to CineXPlayer, its multi-format video playback iPad app adding new features for automatically looking up movie information on IMDb, downloading DVD covers and more.

CineXPlayer was one of the first media players for iOS to support Xvid and other file formats that the default iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch video apps can’t handle. These days media players for iOS are a dime a dozen, but CineXPlayer has added a few new features to help justify its $3.99 price tag.

“CineXPlayer was developed to be the hands-down best way for iPad owners to View, Store, and Manage their digital film library,” says NXP Software.

“Since they’re are able to save full movie files onto the app CineXPlayer also lets users watch full videos and films without an internet connection, a feature perfect for busy travelers in need of some relaxing entertainment while in transit,” according to the company.

In CineXPlayer 2.8 the player screen now includes an IMDb button that can be used to display information about the movie currently being played and users can now surf the web while watching a movie by rotating the iPad into portrait orientation. Users can also now load their movies from CineXPlayer into any browser over a Wi-Fi connection and also remotely control the app from a web browser. Video management has also been improved in the latest version with the ability to transfer videos over Wi-Fi between two devices running CineXPlayer and search for, tag and move multiple files between folders in a single operation. The update also adds a shuffle mode for random playback of video files, a screenshot function for saving still frames to the iPad camera roll and support for playing MP4, MOV and M4V formats directly from Dropbox and downloading videos directly from the web.

Calling it the first Xvid media player for the iPad, CineXPlayer’s developers pride themselves on improving the application based on feedback from the customer base.

“This constant attention to the end-user experience has put the app in a league of its own, level above similarly conceived applications,” says NXP Software.

CineXPlayer 2.8 is compatible with iPad and requires iOS 4.0 or later.

Just like Samsung’s Pop-up Play, only less flexible.

A tablet is what you use to surf the web when you’re (half) watching something on the TV.

Also you can’t put music on your iPad since it has no CD drive. And don’t say you can use iTunes because iTunes sucks dick. It only ofrfes 128kbps and 256kbps AAC protected files, not much of a variety.
